MTS are the proud operators and maintainers of the M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line with the new City section now operational. We run a fully automated passenger railway – an Australian first.  We connect our customers to opportunities that matter to them while delivering the next generation of rail travel to Sydney. With global expertise, we manage 51.5km of track and 21 stations, with a planned expansion into southwest Sydney.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and strategic Safety Assurance & Audit Lead to join a  diverse, collaborative, high performing team to deliver the MTS internal risk based audit activities inline with the MTS assurance model to support legislative, regulatory, contractual and organisational requirements including individual site and safety systems audits.

Key Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):

  • Ability to initiate, develop, communicate and implement the MTS safety and enterprise risk-based audit program.
  • Develop audit plans to ensure audit methodologies are documented and communicated.
  • Plan and conduct risk-based audits of MTS systems, operations and processes and determine compliance with legislation, regulations, policies, and relevant standards.
  • Develop audit tools and resources for the purposes of conducting and documenting audits.
  • Support the planning and completion of audits and inspections by external stakeholders.
  • Manage the completion of corrective action processes by developing an action management strategy which includes the follow up on identified non-conformances, Workplace Inspections and report on outcomes and or system effectiveness.
  • Promote risk awareness throughout the organisation and lead initiatives for proactive risk management.
  • Act as the primary liaison for third-party audits or compliance inspections.
  • Maintain regular and effective communications on safety via the delivery of quality reporting to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure MTS’s adherence to all contractual/Project deeds, legislative and regulatory requirements, and planning obligations. 

Desired Skills and Experience

About You 

The ideal candidate will bring a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and test the effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance processes.

You will lead and conduct assurance engagements, supporting management in delivering the annual audit plan, and providing coaching to team members. 

You will also possess the following:

  • Diploma in WHS or higher qualification or equivalent relevant industry experience
  • Lead Auditor Qualifications – working knowledge of WHS management systems ISO45001
  • ICAM Lead Investigator certification (desirable).
