About Metro Trains Sydney (MTS)
MTS are the proud operators and maintainers of the M1 Northwest and Bankstown Line with the new City section now operational. We run a fully automated passenger railway – an Australian first. We connect our customers to opportunities that matter to them while delivering the next generation of rail travel to Sydney. With global expertise, we manage 51.5km of track and 21 stations, with a planned expansion into southwest Sydney.
We have an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Environment and Sustainability Advisor to initiate and drive continuous improvement with our integrated management systems and Environmental and Sustainability Risk registers while ensuring compliance and reporting is timely and accurate.
Reporting to the Environment and Sustainability Lead, this critical role will develop and maintain our management plans and procedures in-line with contractual obligations to support the delivery of environmental and sustainability compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the maintenance of MTS environmental and sustainability management systems, plans and records.
- Initiate and drive continuous improvement of the Safety Management System (SMS) and the Environmental and Sustainability Management System via regular audits, and trend analysis to better enable MTS to meet its legal and regulatory requirements, business objectives and KPI’s.
- Support the identification and management of safety and environmental risks via an Environmental and Sustainability Risk Register and an Aspects & Impacts Register.
- Support the incident response, investigations and remediation for safety, environment, and sustainability issues.
- Undertake data analysis and reporting to support timely monitoring of legislative, regulatory and governance compliance, and performance results.
- Ensure environmental compliance, inspections and reporting are undertaken following relevant NSW and Commonwealth legislation, systems, processes, and MTS policy requirements.
About You
As a dynamic and self-driven individual, you have excellent demonstrated experience in delivering environmental and sustainability compliance, management plans and procedures and can navigate and understand the complexity of heavy regulated industries.
You may come from rail, local or state councils with qualifications in environmental science, environmental management and/or equivalent demonstrated experience coupled with up to 3-5 years professional experience applied across large, diverse environments.
You will also bring your superior written and verbal communication skills, including the confidence and ability to work with integrated management systems, maintain accurate records, while acting as the primary contact for external agencies. You also possess outstanding stakeholder relationship skills with the ability to develop and build strong relationships to deliver positive outcomes. Experience in liaising with the EPA would be looked upon favourably.
This hybrid role will be based at Tallawong.
