About the Role 

We are seeking a dynamic and driven Asset Engineering Technician – Plant & Equipment (Electrical Fitter) to join our Engineering and Maintenance Delivery team.

In this role you will support the Plant Manager in the stewardship of the Plant (Rollingstock) and Depot Equipment assets, delivery of maintenance for existing assets and acceptance of new assets to ensure the assets are managed to meet operational, performance, safety and environmental standards.

Working predominately Monday to Friday, this role may on occasion include working weekends and public holidays.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Undertake Technical Maintenance Plan tasks for all Plant (e.g., Battery Electric Locomotives & Wagons, Infrastructure Maintenance Vehicles, and Track Trolleys) and Depot Equipment (e.g., Trade Waste Plant, Vehicle Loading Cranes and Generators).
  • Undertake corrective maintenance, fault finding activities and troubleshoot faults/failures for plant and equipment assets.
  • Work with other disciplines to support the delivery of preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance.
  • Provide coverage as required for System and Infrastructure Response teams.
  • Perform isolations/reinstatements and re-configuration of energy systems.
  • Work with maintenance service providers to support the delivery of preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance.
  • Provide engineering knowledge support in technical, operational and maintenance information areas.  

Desired Skills and Experience

About You 

You will be a qualified Electrician who brings a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the rail or related industry (heavy machinery), with proven experience in one or more of the following asset systems: Rollingstock, Road Rail Vehicles and Electrical specialisations.

Additionally, you are able to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with key MTS internal and external stakeholders.

You will also possess the following:

  • Certificate III or higher in one of the following engineering disciplines or related qualifications deemed to be equivalent to Electrical Fitter (Auto Electrician).
  • Additional preferred:
    • Track Machine Operator
    • Working at Heights
    • Heavy Vehicle Licence (MR/HR/HC)
    • Perform EWP Controlled
    • NDT qualifications (Dye Penetrant would be an advantage)
